Quiz funnels for Shopify

A quiz funnel asks the visitor a few questions and uses the answers to recommend a product, a routine or a bundle. The visitor chooses for themselves, one tap at a time, and ends on a result they can add to cart.

Quizzes suit stores where the hard part of buying is deciding which product is right. This page covers when a quiz helps, how to plan one, and how to build it in Funneled.

What is a quiz funnel?

A quiz funnel is a landing page, or a section of one, built around a short questionnaire. Each question has a few answers to choose from. The answers decide which question comes next and which products appear at the end.

It does the job a shop assistant would do: ask what the customer needs, then point to the right shelf. A quiz with three or four questions is usually enough to narrow a range down to one recommendation.

The results screen is where the sale happens. It shows the recommended products with a way to add them to cart, so the visitor does not have to go and find them.

When to use a quiz funnel

  • You sell a range, and the right product depends on the customer: skin type, size, taste, use, or budget.
  • Visitors land on a collection page and leave without choosing.
  • The purchase is a gift, and the buyer needs help picking.
  • You want the result to be a bundle or routine, not a single product.

When to use something else

  • You sell one product, or the choice between products is obvious.
  • The ad already promised a specific product. Take the visitor straight to it.
  • You would need many questions to reach a result. Each extra question loses some visitors.

What goes into a quiz funnel

In the order a visitor meets them, top to bottom.

  1. 01

    A reason to start

Say what the visitor gets at the end and how long it takes: “Answer three questions and we’ll pick the set.”

  2. 02

    A few questions

Ask only what changes the recommendation. Use the customer’s words for the answers, not your product names.

  3. 03

    Branching where it matters

Send different answers down different paths so nobody answers a question that does not apply to them.

  4. 04

    A results screen

Show the recommendation, the answers that led to it, and a button to add it to cart.

  5. 05

    A way to skip

Some visitors would rather browse. Put the products below the quiz so they can choose directly.

  6. 06

    Proof near the result

Reviews for the recommended products, close to the add to cart button.

How to build a quiz funnel in Funneled

Quizzes are built in their own editor in Funneled and then placed on a page with the Quiz block. The quiz is a flow of question screens and results screens that you connect together.

Quiz
Embeds a published quiz on the page, with its results and add to cart button.
Title and Rich Text
The headline and the line that tells the visitor what the quiz will give them.
Product Cards
A grid or carousel of products under the quiz for visitors who would rather browse.
Reviews
Customer proof near the results.
Email Capture
An optional sign-up form that sends the address to your connected Klaviyo account.
  • A question can be single choice or multiple choice, and answers can show an icon or image. With single choice, each answer can lead to a different next question.
  • Each answer can do one of three things: add a product to a bundle, recommend a product, or filter the store’s products by tag, type, vendor or title. Filters from several answers narrow the same set.
  • The results screen can show the visitor’s answers, the bundle built from them, recommended products, and the products that matched the filters, with a button that adds the result to cart. Checkout happens on Shopify.
  • A quiz is published separately from the page, so the same quiz can be placed on more than one funnel.

Every page is built in the same editor and connects to the same store. For how products, cart, checkout, testing and analytics work, see the Shopify landing page builder overview.

It’s Olio

Christmas gift finder quiz

A three-question quiz (who the gift is for, what they cook, what you want to spend) that picks a gift set from the range. Shoppers who would rather browse can skip it and add a set to cart from the grid underneath.

Quiz funnel questions,
answered

As few as it takes to make a recommendation you would stand behind. Three to five is typical. Every question should change what the visitor sees at the end. If it does not, remove it.

Yes. In Funneled each answer can add a product to a bundle, so the results screen shows a set built from the visitor’s answers with one add to cart button.

Yes. The quiz draws on products from your connected Shopify store. Answers can point at specific products or filter the range by tag, product type, vendor, handle or title.

No. Some stores use a quiz mainly to build an email list, but the quiz in Funneled is built to end in a product recommendation and an add to cart. You can add an Email Capture block to the same page if you want both.
